Frequently Asked Questions

How long has your company been in business?
White’s has been family-owned and operating since 1870. That is more than 150 years and six generations of stone craftsmanship.
What makes White’s Marble Works unique?
White’s Marble Works is a family-owned company that has served families since 1870 and remains owned and operated by a direct descendant of the White family. The business is led by specialists in each area, with Matt White overseeing the Countertop Division and Allen White overseeing the Monument and Sign Division. You combine state-of-the-art equipment with the ability to hand craft one-of-a-kind pieces, and customers can visit to receive personal guidance and explore material options.
I’ve never bought a memorial before; where do I begin?
A good place to start is by calling or emailing to schedule a consultation and request a complimentary estimate. Bring what you already know, such as the name and dates, the cemetery name, and whether the memorial is for a single person, a companion, or a family. During your visit, we will help you choose the style that fits your needs and cemetery requirements, such as an upright, slant, bevel, or flat, and then we will help you personalize it with lettering, artwork, and granite color. Once the design details are finalized, the memorial moves into production using steps like programming, layout, and sandblasting, and then it is installed.
Do I need an appointment to visit?
Walk-ins are welcome, and appointments are preferred so we can give you dedicated time and guidance. If you are coming in to discuss a monument or memorial design, calling ahead is recommended so we can be ready for a full consultation and estimate.
Can a customized design be put on a stone?
Yes. Custom monuments and personalized designs are part of what we offer, and our production process is built around turning approved designs into engraving and sandblasting instructions. If you want very detailed artwork or photo-style engraving, black granite is often a great option because it provides strong contrast for detailed engraving and laser etching.
Will I see a proof drawing of the memorial before production begins?
Yes. We finalize the design details with you before production begins. If you would like a proof drawing to review and approve, please request one during your consultation and we will walk you through the layout before we proceed.
Do you offer payment plans?
The best way to get an accurate answer is to call or email us, and we will explain what options are available for your specific memorial project.
Do you do restoration work on existing stones?
Yes. We offer restoration services to help clean, repair, and refresh existing memorials. We also offer mobile sandblasting in many cases, which can allow engraving and restoration work to be done on-site without moving the stone.
Can you add a death date to an existing stone, even if it did not come from your company?
In many cases, yes. Adding a date is often possible even if the stone was produced elsewhere, as long as the stone’s condition allows it and the cemetery permits the work. Our mobile sandblasting service can often be used to add names, dates, or other details on-site.
What are the cemetery’s rules and regulations?
Cemetery rules vary by location, and each cemetery sets its own requirements for memorial size, thickness, base or foundation standards, vase policies, and installation procedures. When you contact us, share the cemetery name as early as you can, and we will help guide the design so it meets that cemetery’s requirements before anything is finalized.
Where is your countertop division located?
Our countertop division has two locations. The Sweetwater location is at 113 Tech Drive, Sweetwater, TN 37874, and the Topside location is at 2519 Topside Rd, Louisville, TN 37777.
What are the instructions for setting vases?
Vase setting instructions can vary depending on the vase style and the cemetery’s requirements. In general, you should confirm the cemetery allows the vase style you want, make sure the mounting area is clean and dry, and ensure the vase sits level and fully seated without forcing it. If your vase is removable, it should fit securely while still being easy to remove when needed for seasonal rules or maintenance. Because vase types and cemetery policies differ, the best approach is to call us with your memorial details so we can give you the correct instructions for your specific vase and stone.
